Can Tally talk to WhatsApp?

The most common integration question a Bengaluru business asks, because almost every one of them runs accounts in Tally and customers on WhatsApp, and the same order gets typed into both.

Yes. Tally exposes its data through a local XML interface. WhatsApp exposes sending and receiving through Meta's Cloud API. Neither knows the other exists, so an integration layer is built between them. Once it is there, an invoice can go out on WhatsApp the moment it exists in Tally, and an order that arrives on WhatsApp can become a Tally voucher without anyone retyping it.

What it looks like day to day

  • Invoice raised in Tally becomes a PDF on the customer's WhatsApp within a minute, from your business number, with a payment link if you use a gateway.
  • Payment received becomes a receipt on WhatsApp and a reconciled entry in Tally, without the accountant touching either.
  • Order on WhatsApp is read, checked against stock, and posted as a sales order or voucher. The customer gets a confirmation. Your staff get a line in a list, not a screenshot.
  • Outstanding dues get a polite reminder on a schedule you set, pulled from Tally's own receivables, so the reminder is always right.

What it does not do

It does not replace Tally, and it does not replace your WhatsApp number. It does not send marketing blasts; Meta's rules and India's TRAI rules both exist, and a system that gets your number blocked is worse than no system. And it does not read a customer's mind: an order that says the usual still needs a person, and the layer hands it to one rather than guessing.

What it needs from you

  • A WhatsApp Business account on Meta's Cloud API, with your business verified. Messages you initiate use approved templates; replies inside the 24-hour window do not.
  • Tally on a machine that stays on, or hosted, with its XML interface enabled. Tally.ERP 9 and TallyPrime both work.
  • A short list of which events should trigger which messages. This is the scoping call, and it usually takes twenty minutes.

What it costs

The integration and automation tier starts at ₹1,05,000 and takes one to two weeks. That covers Tally, WhatsApp and usually one more system, such as Razorpay or Zoho, with scheduled and event-driven syncs and one source of truth so the same order is never typed twice. When Tally or WhatsApp changes something and a sync breaks, the Care retainer at ₹25,000 a month covers the fix.

Typing the same order into two systems?

Tell me which two. Twenty minutes on a call and you will know whether it is a one-week job or a two-week one.
